Finger Lakes Getaway

I have to admit, I love where I live. I moved an hour north of where I was born, and the area is amazing. Though some people loathe the winter months, I don’t mind it much. The changing of the seasons often reminds me that life is a constant cycle, and that nothing stays the same. Perhaps it is easier for me to think this way because I have been around this area my whole life, but I can say that living near the Finger Lakes of New York is indeed a blessing.

The Finger Lakes are a series of lakes that do indeed look somewhat like fingers if you look at them on a map. They are long and narrow, but wide enough to be a spectacular site. If you visit the Finger Lakes in the fall, you will see a breathtaking view of the changing leaves reflected in the water of these lakes. It is quite a peaceful site to behold. You can also cruise the lake in a hired boat to truly take in the scenery of the Finger Lakes.

The Finger Lakes are known as a great place to grow wines. The wines grown around the Finger Lakes are made from grapes grown on their shores. While many think New York is a little cold for grapes, they have to remember the unique wine-growing climate that a lake offers. If you are a wine lover, you should definitely try a few of the great wines that are produced around the Finger Lakes. You can one of many wine tours offered around many of the larger Finger Lakes to try many of them at once, and to take home a few of your favorites.

In recent years, land on the shores of the Finger Lakes has become highly sought after real estate. They have also become a popular place to get away for some piece and quiet. The Finger Lakes offer not only wines, but also many of the great activities you would associate with life on the shore of a lake. If you are looking for lake front property, you may want to give these lakes a second look.

The Finger Lakes have other attractions as well. There are many great things to do while visiting. You can drive a few minutes south to visit the Corning Museum of Glass, or spend a weekend at Watkins Glen International Raceway. Rochester and Buffalo are a short drive away, as is Niagara Falls. If you are looking for a varied and relaxed getaway, ask your travel agent about visiting the Finger Lakes. You won’t regret it.
